Pettus Project Consulting Services

Principal

Tim Pettus is a graduate (BSME) of the Missouri University of Science & Technology who has over forty years of experience leading projects as a project manager, supervisor, and department manager.  He is certified with the Project Management Institute (PMI) as both a Project Management Professional (PMP) and Program Management Professional (PgMP).  While predominantly employed in the nuclear power industry, Mr. Pettus has also worked with coal-fired plants and in the oilfield service industry.  His resume is available at the bottom of the page.

Project Manager

Extensive experience acting as project manager for both large and small projects.  These include:

  • 11 steam generator maintenance projects ranging from $1-6 million dollars including activities such as eddy current testing, secondary cleaning, sleeving, chemical cleaning, shot-peening and associated closure work.
  • Procurement of replacement steam generators and oversight of fabrication activities in France and Sweden.  Dayshift lead for field installation at plant.
  • Major boiler outage at coal-fire plant that included over $50M of capital projects including GSU Transformer replacement, Reheater/Economizer/Lower Slope replacement, and Maintenance Power Loop replacement.

Project Team Development and Oversight

Directly organized, trained, and oversaw project teams who performed the following (and other) successful projects:

  • Non-Safety Auxiliary Feed Pump design, procurement, and installation (including tie-in to safety-related system) within 30 days of authorization to proceed
  • Replacement Reactor Vessel Closure Head (RRVCH) project with Integrated Head Assembly (IHA)
  • Construction and initial cask loading of world's first underground Independent Spent Fuel Storage Installation (ISFSI) at an operating nuclear power plant
  • 500,000 gallon seismically qualified Hardened Condensate Storage Tank (HCST) as a response to NRC Fukushima Orders
  • Water Jet Peening of Reactor Vessel RCS Nozzles and Bottom Mounted Instrument Nozzles
  • Containment Cooler Coil Replacement

Project Management Program Development and Implementation

Led development of initial corporate project management program that has now been in place for 20 years.  Project management program owner at nuclear power center for over 15 years, including training of site senior management and maintenance of program.


Consistent innovation of project management processes including the creation of effective tools for executing /  tracking / monitoring project progress, development of original training for project managers, and instituting the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for project development, execution, and monitoring.

Training

Extensive experience in developing and conducting training, including:

  • Training for site personnel prior to Steam Generator Replacement Project.  
  • Training for senior management and site personnel on project management program and principles.   
  • Project Management Proficiency training for project managers (PMs) on PM proficiency and cost management.  
  • Training to all site personnel on the Taum Sauk plant failure (which occurred due to PM failures). 
  • Presentation to industry configuration management group on the cause and impact of the Taum Sauk plant failure.

Knowledgeable about the nuclear Standard Design Process (SDP) and industry document IP-ENG-001, Standard Design Change, requirements.  Served as Manager, Engineering Design and Manager, Engineering Projects, the two departments who own and implement the process at a nuclear energy center.
